Milroy Observatory is situated on a 1000ha (2500 acre) property, bordering the north eastern corner of the Warrumbungle National Park Coonabarabran.
It is in the foothills of the Warrumbungle Mountains about 10 miles from the world renowned Siding Spring Observatory.
Coonabarabran is known as the Astronomy Capital of Australia because of its clear dark skies, with over 70% clear night's low humidity and very stable air. Coonabarabran is the best place in Australia to view the southern sky.
This is a unique opportunity to share in the ownership and use of a large professional telescope. This offer is limited to just twenty (20) people to ensure they get the best value of clear skies when they want it. For more information please contact us or phone +61(0) 2 6842 1922.
The 40" Boller and Chivens Telescope was the first telescope to be placed on Siding Spring. It is currently undergoing major refurbishment and being relocated to Milroy.
The drive motors are being replaced with modern digitally controlled stepper motors with absolute encoding.
The telescope has two secondary mirrors f/8 and f/18. Dual filter wheels, auto X-stage guider, public eyepiece viewing as well as CCD imaging.
The telescope will also have the ability to be remotely accessed. This refurbishment will deliver state-of-the-art performance and make Milroy Observatory one of the premier observing sites in the southern hemisphere.
There are several other telescopes available for usmirmi1e at Milroy Observatory. There is a 50cm (20inch) and a 32cm dobsonian type Ninja. A 25cm and a 40cm Lightbridge. Two binocular type telescopes as well as some smaller types.
These are all available for use with camera mounts for photography. Our astronomer in charge will be available to help set up the viewing schedule on all the telescopes.
